Product Description

  • Single-hand operation for easy use
  • Manually lower to horizontal position for sitting, raise when leaving
  • A heavy wire detent in the retainer bracket stops the seat from falling
  • The seat is 15 inches (387 mm) wide and extends 33-3/4 inches (860 mm) from the wall

The ASI 8358 Fold-up Bath Tub Seat is a robust, retractable seat that spans the entire tub, acting like a bench. It's 15 inches deep and made of half-inch thick ivory phenolic. When placed in the tub, it extends 33-3/4 inches from the wall, fitting most standard bathtubs. The seat frame is made of 1-inch diameter 18-gauge stainless steel tubing, and the mounting straps are 1-inch wide 12-gauge stainless steel. Polyurethane rubber cushion grip-pads on the underside prevent slipping and protect the tub surface. Once properly installed, this seat can hold up to 500 pounds, fully meeting ADA accessibility guidelines.

From the Manufacturer

SPECIFICATION
The Fold-Up Bathtub Seat frame is 1-inch (25 mm) diameter 18-gauge stainless steel tubing and 1-inch (25 mm) wide 12-gauge seat mounting straps, all type 304 alloy 18-8 with a satin finish on exposed parts. The seat slats are half-inch (13 mm) thick solid phenolic, ivory-white on top and bottom with black edges. The mounting and retainer brackets are 8-gauge stainless steel with countersunk holes for №10 flat head screws. The structure is welded, with all exposed edges and corners rounded and deburred. The mounting brackets are fixed to the seat frame. Polyurethane rubber cushion grip-pads are installed on the parts of the seat frame that touch the tub. A wall-mounted retainer hook holds the seat when not in use and is provided separately.

INSTALLATION Mount the unit on the surface as shown in the diagram. The installer or contractor must install a concealed anchor plate or blocking as per construction documents or local building codes before wall finishing and prepare the wall properly for bracket fasteners. Fasten the mounting brackets to the concealed anchor or blocking plate with suitable hardware. Place the unit directly over the tub with the mounting bracket knuckle 1/8 to 1/4 inch (3 to 6 mm) above the tub so that the seat frame cushion grip-pads rest on the tub rim when down.

STRENGTH ASI Tub Seats are designed to meet and exceed the requirements of California Building Code Sections 1115B.6.1.2 for “Accessible Bathtubs” and 1115B.8.3 for “Structural Strength”, as well as ADAAG requirements in CABO/ANSI A117.1 - 2003 section 610 and CFR 28 Part 36, Federal Register Vol. 56, No 144 July 26, 1991, section 4.20.3 and section 4.26.3. The product should be strong enough to support a 250-pound (113.4 kg) load and match the size and edge clearances in the diagram. Wall mounting is crucial to meet this requirement. The fastener system must be appropriately sized, and proper wall reinforcements should be provided. The unit can support 500 lbs when installed correctly.

OPERATION The Fold-up Tub Seat can be operated with one hand. Lower it to the horizontal position for use and raise it when leaving or arriving. The retainer bracket with a heavy wire detent keeps the seat from dropping.

Using the ASI 8358 Fold-up Bath Tub Seat is a breeze. You can easily lower or raise it with just one hand. When you're ready to sit, lower it to the horizontal position. When you're done, raise it up. It's very convenient. Before installing, make sure to follow the instructions carefully. The installer or contractor needs to put in a concealed anchor plate or blocking as required by local building codes. Then, use suitable hardware to fasten the mounting brackets to the anchor or blocking plate. Place the seat over the tub with the mounting bracket knuckle 1/8 to 1/4 inch above the tub. Once installed, this seat can hold up to 500 pounds, so you can use it with confidence. To keep it in good condition, regularly check the fasteners to make sure they're tight. Wipe the seat clean after each use to prevent dirt buildup. The polyurethane rubber cushion grip-pads on the underside help prevent slipping and protect the tub surface, so be careful not to damage them.
